In order to convey notions of filth, I wanted to incorporate what appears to be layers of grime building up in the middle of the piece, partially obscuring tiles further to the back.

To achieve this, I coated torn pieces of tissue in liquid latex, and layered them on one another between the seams of some of the tiles. I would then paint over this build up with additional liquid latex to secure it, and simply repeated the process. I chose not to paint it at this time, or mix the latex with paint, in order for it to dry completely.
